Our Story
While technological platforms promise democratized access, the dominant epistemologies and aesthetic paradigms in global content production, spanning film, documentary, digital media, and strategic communication, remain largely distant from African narratives. A critical analysis of the Southern African creative sector reveals a pervasive trend of mimicry, where indigenous firms often replicate foreign models, resulting in content that fails to leverage the unique cultural semiotics and narrative vernaculars inherent to the African-urban experience. This compromises authenticity and perpetuates a deficit in African agency on the global stage.
Polelo Ya Sahara Media (Private) Limited emerged from this critical observation. Founded by Sholom Takavengwa, a proponent of African philosophy and thought, the media company is headquartered in Harare, Zimbabwe, and is conceptually anchored in the principle of Ubu-Ntu —the ontological recognition of interconnected humanity. This philosophical foundation translates into a commitment to media praxis where storytelling functions as a catalyst for social and economic transformation, prioritizing collective upliftment over purely transactional content creation.
Our mission is the systematic promotion of African native narratives within a contemporary production framework. This entails developing content that achieves a triadic objective: high relatability (cultural resonance), valuable utility(stakeholder investment and consumer benefit), and profound narrative integrity.
Historical Parallel and Strategic Positioning
Our conceptual lineage draws parallels with institutions that historically redefined African discourse. Polelo Ya Sahara Media aims to be the strategic digital and creative custodian for the contemporary African narrative.
It seeks to overcome the challenge of representational imbalance by positioning ourselves as a strategic intermediary. Our integrated model, spanning Production, Experiential Events, and Strategic Consultancy, is designed to mobilize cultural capital and translate creative innovation into measurable impact across the public, private, and development sectors.
Core Tenets and Visionary Trajectory
Our competitive advantage is codified by a commitment to Cultural Competence, an Integrated Model promoting seamless synergy between departments, an Innovative Approach utilizing data-informed strategy, and an expansive Pan-African Vision.
Ultimately, Polelo Ya Sahara Media seeks to transcend the regional context to become a leading global communications enterprise. Our visionary objective is the sustained redefinition of the global narrative on Africa, ensuring that African creative intellect and cultural dynamism are recognized not as an emerging market, but as a definitive force shaping the future of global media.
